They’ve got all this stuff for sale—there are Laura salt-and-pepper shakers and pot holders and little china bells and stationery and napkin rings and key chains and lots of books about Laura, not just ones that she’s written but that people have written about her. I wonder what she’d think if she came back and saw all this stuff with her name on it. They even have a little cloth sack full of pebbles like the ones that Laura found at Lake Pepin when they went there for their picnic. She’d put so many in her pocket that they tore it right off her dress. . . .

They had a replica of the Charlotte doll that Laura got for Christmas, a real stuffed doll instead of the corncob doll. You could buy it. And Mom and I went halvesies on it.
